I grew up in Wisconsin following the Iditarod each year and attending small, local races. I was excited to be emerged into the mushing culture when I moved to Fairbanks, AK. I bought a couple sled dogs and mushed with friends. I was able to experience the start of two Iditarod races and two Yukon Quest races. Both of these races are 1,000 miles long. I can't explain to you the emotion that surrounds these mushers, their dogs and their handlers while they embark on a 1,000 mile adventure where dogs and mushers depend on each other for life. I hope I was able to capture some of these emotions in photographs. Enjoy!!
